Storing, Defrosting, & Reheating Your Brazos Bagels

Bagel freshness is a tricky thing. Lots of different factors can affect the freshness of your bagels: humidity, air temperature, dough hydration, ingredient quality, and more. With so many factors at play, how do you keep your bagels deliciously fresh for several days?

The truth is, that like bread and other baked goods, from the moment a bagel comes out of the oven it begins its journey towards staleness. Fortunately, our high-quality, organic ingredients help your bagels stay fresher longer and prolong your bagels’ freshness without the use of stabilizers and other problematic additives. Even so, your Brazos Bagels will need a little love and attention to fight off the inevitable.

Storing Your Brazos Bagels
For bagels that you will eat within 24 hours of purchasing

  • Keep in the paper take-home bag, sealed as tightly as possible, on your counter or tabletop, away from direct sun and air (a/c vents, open windows, etc…) until eating.

For bagels that you will eat within 48 hours of purchasing

  • Follow the instructions above for the first 24 hours

  • After 24 hours, place the paper take-home bag you received your bagels in into a zip lock bag, making sure all excess air is squeezed out of the zip lock bag.

  • Keep on your counter or tabletop until eating (no more than an additional 24 hours).

For bagels you plan to eat after 48 hours

  • Take whatever bagels you will not eat within that day or the next, and freeze them. Do not refrigerate. Refrigerating your bagels will damage the bagels and impact their flavor, texture, and quality.

  • Remove your bagels from your paper take-home bag and place them in a ziploc bag.

  • For best results and easier defrosting, slice bagels, and wrap individually in aluminum foil before placing in ziploc bag.

  • Before placing in the freezer, make sure all excess air is squeezed out of the ziploc bag.

  • Seal the bag, taking care to let in as little air as possible, and then place in the freezer.

  • Keep bagels in the freezer for up to 90 days.
